More of a reflection on the situation rather than the people at Scott Street. When we arrived they said they had stopped doing this and had let you know. I think they took pity on us as it was pissing down that day and we looked a bit stressed given we had walked in the rain from the bus terminal. Hopefully they got paid for this.

Storing bags on arrival: airport room and the railway-station gap

Queensland Rail provides no luggage lockers at Cairns Railway Station, so train arrivals need an alternative. The station is on Bunda Street, with its Travel Centre on Platform 1. Steps and lifts connect the platforms: Platform 1 serves the Spirit of Queensland, while Platform 2 serves the Kuranda Scenic Railway.

Cairns Airport’s official luggage storage room is at the Car Park Service Kiosk. It opens daily from 6am to 6pm and accepts Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Eftpos. The size limit is 2m × 2m × 2m, covering length, width and height. The airport has two terminals: T1 serves international flights and T2 domestic flights, so the room covers either flight type.

Motorised transport from the airport to the city centre typically takes 10 to 15 minutes, with peak traffic adding 5 to 10 minutes. Airport storage is therefore separate from the railway station, and train arrivals need another arrangement.

Skyrail does not permit luggage on board, and only small bags or day packs are allowed. Its Smithfield Terminal has a limited number of coin-operated luggage lockers, so most visitors need to store bags in town before a Skyrail day trip. Stasher has no bag size or weight limits, which suits bulky day-trip gear.

The Cairns Art Gallery requires large bags and backpacks to be checked at reception. For a waterfront circuit, Cairns Aquarium is at 5 Florence Street, one block from the public bus terminal on Lake Street. Cairns Museum sits at Lake and Shields Streets, near a Lake Street bus station and taxi stand, and is two blocks from the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal. The Cairns Central area links to Stasher points serving these sights, making a town drop-off relevant for gallery and cruise-side waterfront visits in Cairns.

Peace of mind compared with the official airport room

Every Stasher booking in Cairns is backed by the Stasher Guarantee, covering up to A$19,000 per booking. Bookings are made online with a trusted local shop or hotel, or with a self-service smart locker. In each setting, your bag is kept safely out of sight until collection. Before drop-off, a cancelled booking can receive either a 50% refund or a 100% coupon.

When using the airport room, check its 18:00 closing time against your flight and onward transport.
