Luggage storage at the airports

İstanbul Airport has a staffed left-luggage office on the arrivals floor, next to the domestic passenger exit and opposite exit 13, as well as self-service lockers on the departures level near Gates 1 and 6. For 2026, the airport’s 24-hour storage fee runs from TRY 210 for a small bag up to TRY 860 for XXL-sized baggage.

Sabiha Gökçen, the city’s second airport on the Asian side, has its own Left Baggage Office in the International Arrivals hall. If your flight lands late or you want to head straight into the city without dragging everything along, leaving a bag at the terminal beats carrying it onto a crowded metro.

Getting from the airports to the city with luggage

From İstanbul Airport, the M11 metro and connecting services reach the Sultanahmet district in roughly 60 to 75 minutes, while Havaist buses run to Taksim and can take 90 minutes or more once traffic builds. Whichever you choose, pack light: Metro İstanbul lets each passenger travel with one large suitcase and either one cabin bag or a small to medium backpack, and refuses anything over 30 kg or larger than 120x60x50 cm. İETT public transportation services in İstanbul prohibit passengers from carrying loads larger than 120x50x60 cm or weighing more than 30 kg. The older Aksaray–Atatürk Airport metro line still links Aksaray to the former airport site in 35 minutes via Zeytinburnu and Otogar, useful if you’re staying near those stops.

Bag rules at İstanbul’s sights and attractions

Two of the cisterns are stricter: Şerefiye Sarnıcı refuses large luggage altogether for security and visitor density, and the Cistern of Theodosius doesn’t permit large bags or suitcases inside the facility. For those, arriving bag-free is the only way in.

Dolmabahçe Sarayı requires large bags, backpacks, and luggage to be left at the free cloakroom located near the entrance.

The İstanbul Modern requires visitors to leave umbrellas, large bags, backpacks, and luggage in the museum’s cloakroom. Çamlıca Tower prohibits items such as suitcases and rucksacks, but visitors may leave these personal belongings in the tower’s cloakroom after security screening. İstanbul also positions itself as Türkiye’s tourism capital.
