About 10 minutes walk from the station and pouring with rain. Much better value than leaving it at the station.

Storing bags on arrival by ferry or bus

The Kirkwall Travel Centre is the main hub for all mainland bus services arriving and departing in Kirkwall, making it the central bus arrival point for luggage storage in Kirkwall. From Hatston Pier, Orkney Islands Council provides a complimentary shuttle bus to the Travel Centre. The journey covers 4km and takes approximately seven minutes, giving ferry arrivals a direct connection to the town’s bus hub.

A left-luggage facility is available in central Kirkwall, close to both the Travel Centre and the taxi rank. This places the facility near the point reached by the council shuttle and beside the main mainland bus interchange. Arrivals by bus can use the Travel Centre as their local reference point, while arrivals at Hatston Pier have the shuttle connection to it. The local sequence is Hatston Pier, the complimentary council shuttle, Kirkwall Travel Centre, then the nearby left-luggage facility.

Exploring Kirkwall's centre without your bags

Kirkwall’s compact shopping district, including Broad Street and Victoria Street, is approximately a ten-minute walk from the harbourfront. A left-luggage drop by the harbourfront therefore suits an itinerary focused on the town’s shops, while a drop elsewhere could add walking to this route. In the historic centre, the Bishop’s and Earl’s Palaces stand beside St Magnus Cathedral, a short walk from the Kirkwall Travel Centre. A left-luggage option near the Travel Centre fits a sightseeing route centred on these landmarks. These distances help match somewhere to store your bags with the day’s main stops.
