This app was extremely useful during my stay in Paris. The luggage storage service is convenient, reliable and very secure. In addition, the welcome at the shop was top-notch: the manager is particularly friendly and warm. An excellent experience!

Really helpful and friendly staff. Bags were stored in a locked room behind reception. Felt very secure as a member of staff had to permit each entry into the hostel. Convenient location.

Luggage storage at the station and airport

Plenty of visitors to Newark touch down with hours to kill or an Airbnb across town, and bags become the first problem to solve.

The main attractions split fairly evenly: the Prudential Center runs its own paid lockers and the Newark Museum of Art has a coat check, while NJPAC accepts only small bags and directs everything else to a free coat check. Getting between Newark Penn Station, the airport, and Midtown Manhattan is straightforward on NJ TRANSIT, so the bag question is best settled before you board. Newark Penn Station provides left luggage storage for a fee. AirTrain Newark provides direct service between the Newark Liberty International Airport Rail Station and all three airport terminals (A, B, and C). Passengers on the AirTrain Newark are permitted to bring luggage, pushchairs, and luggage carts on board. NJ TRANSIT rail passengers should store bags in overhead luggage racks or hold them on their person, keeping aisles clear and not placing bags on adjacent seats. NJ TRANSIT bus passengers may ask the bus operator for assistance with stowing larger items in luggage compartments where available. The one-way fare for an adult ticket from Newark Liberty International Airport Rail Station to Newark Penn Station is $12.30 on NJ TRANSIT. With Stasher, you can store bags from $2.49 per bag per day.

Bag rules at Newark attractions

The Prudential Center, NJPAC, and the Newark Museum of Art are the big three venues travellers head to, and each handles bags a little differently. At the Prudential Center, backpacks and anything larger than 14 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches can't come inside the arena. The arena does offer storage lockers outside the M&M's Tower and Lafayette Street entrances for a fee of $8 to $10.

The Newark Museum of Art asks that all backpacks be left in its coat check. NJPAC bans backpacks, suitcases, and any bag larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 8 inches from the theatres. Patrons carrying oversized bags there will be directed to the coat check at no charge. NJPAC is a five-minute walk from Newark Penn Station, or you can take the Newark Light Rail to NJPAC/Center Street station.

Getting around Newark with luggage

Newark sits in the Gateway Region of New Jersey and, as the state's most populous city, functions as a major industrial, commercial, and cultural centre. It's also one of the East Coast's key transport hubs, with a significant maritime port alongside the airport, so travellers with bags pass through constantly. For trips into Midtown Manhattan, the quickest route from the airport is the NJ TRANSIT train to New York Penn Station, taking about 30 minutes. CoachUSA runs an express bus from the airport to Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park, and Port Authority Bus Terminal, with a journey time of around 50 minutes. NJ TRANSIT trains on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line run frequently every day to the airport rail station. AirTrain stations and trains are ADA-compliant, with lifts and escalators that help when you're moving bags or using a mobility device.
