Most visitors arrive in Fátima by coach, stepping off at the bus station an easy 800-metre walk from the sanctuary esplanade, though anyone coming by rail has to change at Caxarias and finish the journey by road.

Arriving at Fátima with luggage

Fátima's bus station on Avenida Dom José Alves Correia da Silva sits about 800 metres from the sanctuary esplanade, a flat ten-minute walk with a bag in tow. There is no train station in Fátima itself, so anyone arriving by rail must change at Caxarias or another town roughly 18 km away and finish the journey by bus or taxi. That makes the coach the only direct way to reach the shrine with luggage, and the final walk from the terminal is straightforward rather than a climb.

Practicalities for visiting with bags

Entry to the sanctuary, the basilicas and the Chapel of the Apparitions is free, so you won't queue at a ticket desk with bags in hand. Only the museums inside the sanctuary area charge, typically between €5 and €10, and those are the stops where you'd most want to have already left larger luggage elsewhere. Café Fátima sits two steps from the sanctuary and Restaurante Bia less than 100 metres away, while the Life of Christ Museum is a 10-minute walk, so there are places to pause between visits.
