Storing bags for transit connections and onward travel

Chicago Union Station’s official parcel check costs $20 per bag, providing a clear price reference for luggage storage in Chicago Loop. Transit connections elsewhere in the Loop require attention to the current station layout. The State/Lake Loop elevated station is closed for reconstruction until 2029. Clark/Lake provides both elevated and subway service. Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren connects with the Red and Blue Line subways via an exit and a 1/2 block walk north. Washington/Wells connects with Metra’s UP-N, UP-NW and UP-W lines at Ogilvie Transportation Center. These stations serve different onward routes, while the Union Station parcel check is the named official left-luggage service at its stated price.

Bag policies at Loop museums, theaters, and venues

Stasher provides a useful option for bags that Chicago Loop venues will not accept inside. The Chicago History Museum requires all backpacks, large bags, and umbrellas to be left in its complimentary coat check, so a Stashpoint suits items covered by those restrictions. Guarneri Hall permits bags and backpacks only when they fit snugly under the seat. At the Lyric Opera of Chicago, coat, bag and luggage check costs $2. The James M. Nederlander Theatre charges $2 per item for bag check. The United Center has Binbox lockers and bag check in the Uber Zone near the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. A Stashpoint provides separate storage for luggage that cannot meet a venue’s entry rules.

Major festivals and street closures in the Loop

State Street will close to vehicular traffic from Randolph to Jackson for Sundays on State on September 7 and October 5, 2026. Factor this closure into luggage drop-off and collection timing in the Chicago Loop.

The Chicago Jazz Festival runs from September 3 to September 6, 2026, with performances at Millennium Park and other stages. The World Music Festival follows from September 25 to October 4, 2026, across multiple venues in Chicago. These dates may affect access around the Loop, so schedule luggage storage around the event periods and the State Street closure.

Booking your Stashpoint and bag size limits

Stasher offers luggage storage in Chicago Loop through a trusted local shop, hotel, or self-service smart locker. The spot is booked online, and the bag remains safely out of sight until collection. Stasher has no bag size or weight limits, so oversized cases and awkward items are accepted without a stated size or weight restriction. This covers luggage that falls outside standard dimensions.
