Easy to find and there was much enough space to store our four pieces of luggage
  • Barbara 10 months ago in Vienna Central Station
Very friendly man in the shop. We had to put our suitcases in the basement. When we came back, wu could fetch our suitcase in the basement. It would have been easy to change the tag with a tag of another suitcase… But everything went fine and we could use the time from checking out of the apartment until we left the city for sightseeing. Everything was perfect.

Clean, easy, practical, nice people on the reception of the hostel will mark your bag and leave it in their office, I feel it's safe. Hostel is also close to the underground metro so that is very nice if you have bigger bags to carry.

Just a street crossing away from the main train station, right next to the access to the subway.

Very kind and helpful staff. They checked in and out our luggage efficiently and allowed us to use the toilet at the hall.

Close to the Stadtpark and easy to use. Just mind that as this is a myflexbox, your stuff might get hot or freeze depending on the weather.

The people at Segway in Vienna were fantastic. I stored my bike there for 6 weeks. When I picked the bike up I was running an hour late due to a flight delay. They stayed back after hours so I could pick the bike up. Service was exceptional from day 1. Highly recommend Andrea & Dimi and their high quality service

I found Stasher an efficient service. I hope they will get more hosts where you can drop your luggage in the future.

Luggage storage at Wien Mitte

Wien Mitte sits a few minutes' walk from Stephansplatz and the historic centre, where the U3 and U4 underground lines meet five express train routes.

The station's own left-luggage facility is a set of station lockers on Level 0, opposite the U3 entrance next to GustoLab, and they take bags around the clock. You can reserve one in advance through the station's locker operator and choose a booking length that suits you.

If you're using the CAT City Check-in, large or overweight bags still have to be checked at Vienna Airport itself under your airline's rules. Booking ahead is especially worthwhile at weekends and in May and December, when Stasher drop-offs around Wien Mitte are busiest.

Most drop-offs are booked for between 10:00 and 13:00, so allow a little extra time if you arrive then. With Stasher, you can store bags from €1.49 per bag per day at 20+ locations near Wien Mitte.

Some top Stasher locations near Wien Mitte include:

You'll typically find a bag drop at local shops and self-service lockers. Of the nearby points, 3 stay open late. There's no strict size limit, though prices can vary with bag size. Getting around Vienna from the station

Wien Mitte is well connected: underground lines U3 and U4, S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S3, S4 and S7, the City Airport Train, tram O and bus 74A all stop there. The U3 takes you directly to Stephansplatz in the centre. For the airport, the City Airport Train normally runs non-stop in 16 minutes, but from 24 August 2026 to 31 October 2027 a replacement bus leaves from Marxergasse 1b instead. Because of the S-Bahn trunk line closure from 7 September 2026 to late October 2027, no international or intercity trains currently depart from Wien Mitte.

Nearby sights: bag rules and practicalities

St Stephen's Cathedral does not have a luggage depot and prohibits large suitcases and trolleys starting mid-October 2026. It is served by the Stephansplatz station, which is accessible via the U1 and U3 underground lines.

The Hofburg, the former Habsburg palace, doesn't allow large bags, suitcases or pushchairs inside, and there's no storage facility on site. The Sisi Museum within the Hofburg has no cloakroom or left-luggage desk for visitors either. The nearest underground station to the Hofburg is Herrengasse on the U3 line, which is a 2-minute walk from the palace entrance.

The Vienna State Opera asks visitors to hand in coats, jackets and bulky items such as rucksacks, suitcases and umbrellas at its free cloakrooms. It's served by Karlsplatz station on the U1, U2 and U4, plus the Opera, Karlsplatz tram stop on lines 1, 2, D, 62, 71 and 59A.

The Albertina Museum opens daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., staying open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Hundertwasserhaus exterior is free to view at any hour, and tram line 1 stops at Hetzgasse, two minutes' walk away.
